Joel Salatin's blog is The Lunatic Farmer.

He's now an advisor to the Secretary of the USDA, Brooke L. Rollins.  Salatin confirms this on his website

I’ve been contacted by the Trump transition team to hold some sort of position within the USDA and have accepted one of the six “Advisor to the Secretary” spots, declared Salatin on his website.

Cows are herbivores.

This is the problem with the information wars.  It's not just misinformation, disinformation, and other forms of lying, without quoting Salatin of this vision, ABCNews takes it upon itself to tell people what Salatin's vision for the USDA is, actions and views that didn't happen.

ABC News jumps the gun, citing a presumed version of Salatin's vision for the agency,

Salatin’s Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia, stands as a model of regenerative farming and traditional agricultural methods. By promoting local food systems and rejecting the reliance on harmful chemicals, Salatin has inspired a generation of modern homesteaders committed to living sustainably. His leadership at the USDA signals a monumental step toward transforming the nation’s agricultural landscape.

ABCNews makes it sound like Salatin is heading the agency, "Key Goals for the USDA Under Salatin’s Leadership," then presents "his" vision for the agency,

Salatin’s vision for the future of farming in America includes several transformative objectives.

That may very well be, but where's the proof?

  • Eliminating chemical farming: Transitioning away from pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers to protect soil health and public well-being.
  • Advancing sustainable agriculture: Prioritizing regenerative practices that enhance soil fertility, reduce waste, and promote biodiversity.
  • Banning GMOs and harmful inputs: Phasing out genetically modified organisms, glyphosate-based herbicides like Roundup, and seeds sourced from questionable origins.
  • Ending antibiotic and hormone use in livestock: Advocating for healthier farming methods that reject the overuse of pharmaceuticals in animal husbandry.
  • Promoting soil and food health: Educating farmers and consumers about the critical link between mineral-rich soil and nutrient-dense food.

FBI INDOCTRINATION PROGRAM: SOVIET AMERICA?

from Diana West,
Un-American and Beyond Soviet: Steve Baker also reports that this FBI indoctrination program (twice daily phone calls!) was not only for **all state and local law enforcement**, but also for **every US mayor's and governor's office** to teach "them how to go out and prosecute" J6 citizens.

Until these FBI crimes against the citizenry are exposed, and their perpetrators punished (shamed and fired, at the very least) the Wray-Garland FBI is the Patel-Bondi FBI.

The report begins at the 2:15 mark.  The Steve Baker clip begins at the 6:20 mark.  "An FBI's appointee's disturbing ties to J6 persecution."

Tom Fitton on Steve J. Jensen,

He was a key figure in this domestic terrorist push against January 6ers.  According to testimony before the House, he treated them all as terrorists and was one of the key instigators in pushing the narrative within the bureaucracy that these folks needed to be jailed and ferreted out

8:52: Steve Baker.  What should we make of this decision to have Steve Jensen out there in the Washington field office?

9:04.  I will tell you this is the most this is the most confounding thing to come out of the administration thus far, especially out of the New FBI, the new Department of Justice.  As you know, we expected that Kash and Dan Bongino collectively would be a wrecking ball in that agency, or that bureau.  In fact, that's what they alluded to and told us that they would do in so many interviews and Kash Patel's own book.  We gave them here at the Blaze and myself included, our full-throated endorsement of their nominations.  We applauded their confirmations, and we looked forward to the best.  We still hope for the best from them, but this one doesn't make any sense for a lot of reasons the first and most significant thing is that this happened over a week and a half ago when this was announced internally through an email that was sent to about 2500 FBI employees there in the Washington field office this announcement was made to them obviously you can't send out an email in DC to 2500 people and not expect it to be leaked to the Press on Friday of last week the New York Times not in an article about this but kind of parenthetically insert about six or seven paragraphs down

11:30.  Why are people so upset on the appointment of Jensen what did he do why are people so upset?

11:40.  It's the part of the agency that he was in charge of.  He was tasked with heading up the actual investigation all the way through the prosecution of these individuals that were charged with crimes.  As you know, myself I was caught up in this dragnet as well being a journalist that day. There were a lot of lives that were ruined.  My life was not destroyed.  We're talking about misdemeanor defendants, non-violent defendants, families that were SWAT raided by FBI SWAT teams at 6:30 in the morning.  Guns up on their family, on their children, on their wives.  People lost their homes, lost their jobs or careers; they were kicked out of their churches; they lost their marriages, all manner of family destruction and lives that were ruined as a result of the process.  And this guy was at the forefront, he was the tip of the spear in the agency that was seeing this forward.  And then, of course as we know, they established this narrative, the Left, the Biden Administration saw this as an extra advantage to go after all of the basic conservative protesting type of organizations we are talking about the families that protested at your local school board meetings.  We are talking about traditional Catholics and this guy was in charge of that and advocating if they go ahead and move forward on all of these positions and initiatives as well.

13:21.  Tell our audience about the twice daily phone calls that he was a part of.

13:33.  In 4 years of my own investigation into all things January 6th I had no idea that there was a twice daily phone call that began only two days after January 6th in which the FBI was inviting in through one of their special resources all of the police the country local state police as well as the mayoral residences in offices in every city of America they could sign in twice daily and get the narrative the marching orders and the agenda that was being portrayed and this was basically and I don't even know any other way to say it this was a national Forum from which they were able to indoctrinate all of the law enforcement agencies across the country the mayor's office the governor's across the country how to go out and prosecute these individuals these individuals

DR. SUZANNE HUMPHRIES: if you give the vitamin C at the time of the injury, you can prevent [tetanus] from happening

For tetanus, you need rotten meat, okay.  That's how the tetanus vaccines is made with rotten meat.  If anyone is worried about tetanus, what we are shown is a picture of a soldier from like the 1800s.  He's naked.  His back is arched. If you just Google Tetanus right now and you look for images, you'll get this image.

So that's what we are told will happen if we get tetanus.  It's a sure thing.  You're just going to get tetanus.  You're going to die.  The fact of the matter is that when I started doing my deep dive, in World War I, look, it was fought in the trenches with horses.  That's where you get tetanus from ruminant animals.  It lives in their gut and it goes in the soil, and it's just a spore.  It doesn't do anything until it gets into an area that doesn't have oxygen.  So you get a cut.  You get a certain . . . they close you up real nice without cleaning it out properly and you're a setup for tetanus, which will transform from a spore to a different kind of a microbe and start releasing a toxin that can, at first, it starts as numb, numbness usually in that limb.  The extreme case is in that soldier who would have been malnourished, stressed out, probably vaccinated for smallpox before he hit the fields and exposed to enormous amounts of tetanus, possibly a gunshot wound, or a slice somewhere, and then sewn up.  So, yeah, his nervous system could have had a real big dose of toxin and nobody did anything about it.  That's a worst-case scenario.  You don't want that to happen.  You see I've treated tetanus let's just put it that way.  I've treated several cases of tetanus.  One of the cases was a neurologically diagnosed tetanus.  So tetanus is treatable.  You can get on it early.  Rabbit studies have shown that if you give vitamin C if you have a good high vitamin C level before you put glass with tetanus spores on it inside the skin of a rabbit, you can prevent tetanus from happening.  Even if you give the vitamin C at the time of the injury, you can prevent it from happening.  If you give it after the event, the death rate goes down very, very low if not zero.  So vitamin C is a main factor, but the biggest factor is cleaning a wound and keeping the wound open if you think it's a dirty wound, not to close it straight up which is why nails . . . You say stepping on a nail is the classic because rust can kind of hold the old spores inside of it.  You step on the nail, you get inoculated, and then you wait for it to heal over.  You have to open that wound if that's going to happen.

USAID Exposed: The Secret War You Never Saw Coming

Show notes from Hunley,
USAID Exposed: The Secret War You Never Saw Coming reveals how the U.S. Agency for International Development became a global tool of influence, deception, and control. From Cold War origins to billion-dollar scandals under Elon Musk’s investigation, this documentary uncovers how USAID operations blurred the lines between humanitarian aid and covert power plays. Was it ever really about development—or always about dominance? With shocking revelations about DEI spending, digital regime change, and propaganda back home, this is more than a history lesson—it’s a wake-up call. If you think foreign aid is harmless, think again. Watch the full story and decide: reform, replace, or bury USAID?

PHILIP AGEE, CIA AGENT, 1957-68: In the CIA, we didn't give a hoot about democracy

Philip Agee, CIA agent, 1957-68,

In the CIA, we didn't give a hoot about democracy.  I mean it was fine if a government was elected and would cooperate with us, but if it didn't then democracy didn't mean a thing to us.  And I don't think it means a thing today. The true goal of the US government is control.  And they feel that if the United States did not control the government of Latin America, then somebody else would.  And the principle of government by the people, for the people, of the people, that is just . . . that's just silly.

CATHERINE AUSTIN FITTS: The current administration was put into place by the bankers to get the control grid accomplished... [and] it's not technocracy—it's slavery

"The current administration was put into place by the bankers to get the control grid accomplished... [and] it's not technocracy—it's slavery."

"Both the Democratic and Republican side do not see the digital concentration camps snapping into place around them...."

Former Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, investment banker, and founder of the Solari Report Catherine Austin Fitts describes for Paul Buitink how the current Trump administration has been brought in by "the bankers" in order "to get the control grid accomplished." Fitts notes that "both the Democratic and Republican side do not see the digital concentration camps snapping into place around them, and it's shocking."

PARTIAL TRANSCRIPT

"And I would say that the current administration was put into place by the bankers to get the control grid accomplished. The last group couldn't accomplish the control grid. This group is doing a remarkable job of implementing the control grid at high speed, and marketing it. And I would say both the Democratic and Republican side do not see the digital concentration camps snapping into place around them, and it's shocking.

"It's not technocracy. It's slavery. I mean, it's, you know, I think it'll have a different face and feeling in Europe than in the United States, but in the United States, we're talking about slavery. And we're talking about, you know, I have said that if you look at the, you know, one of the reasons we can get rid of USAID is we don't need soft power anymore because with drones and robots and invisible weaponry and surveillance systems, you know, we can use hard power very cheaply and economically.

"And if you look at some of the things that have been happening in the United States with using hard power to basically kill people and take their lands, you know, this is very dangerous."

THOMAS MASSIE: [Trump] said he's going to wind down our Department of Education. The problem with that is that the week before he signed a bill, the continuing resolution that I voted against; he signed that bill which fully funded the Department of Education

They've convinced him that it's in his best interest to do for the next 9 months what Biden did for the last 15 months.  --Thomas Massie

I love what DOGE is doing.  There is sort of an issue though.  They've got billion-dollar solutions to our trillion-dollar problems, and I'm not sure the money is getting cut.  Has it gone back to the Treasury?  Is it getting spent somewhere else?  Are the courts going to tell Trump he has to spend all that money?  So I'm worried that Trump's agenda, at least what we are seeing in the news, is not being consummated legislatively, and that's why he's having so much trouble in the courts right now.  For instance, he held a press conference and said he's going to wind down our Department of Education.  The problem with that is that the week before he signed a bill, the continuing resolution that I voted against; he signed that bill which fully funded the Department of Education.  It was an appropriations bill.  Those are laws.  We passed a law, and he signed it to fund the Department of Education.  And then a week later, he says he's going to shut it down.  It doesn't work that way, and the courts are going to tell him that.  So I support his agenda.  I just think he's sort of getting hoodooed here in Congress by the Uni Party. That's what I . . .

01:10.  What does "hoodooed" mean?  "Hoodooed," is that a Kentucky term?

01:14.  It might be. He's getting tricked by the Establishment, by the swamp here.  You know, he won a massive election, and he has this huge mandate. And it's almost like there's been a coup here that nobody knows about in Congress.  They've convinced him that it's in his best interest to do for the next 9 months what Biden did for the last 15 months.  That's what a continuing resolution is.  The funding bill we passed, I was the only dissenting Republican, the only one to vote against it. And, it . . . you . . . they were saying that there would be a shutdown if you don't pass this continuing resolution.  The government wouldn't be funded, and everything was shut down, and there would be great backlash against the president.  But it's a false choice.  They should have given him a better bill instead of that continuing resolution that just copies everything Biden did.

02:09.  So who is the "they" in this?

02:10.  That would be speaker Mike Johnson and the lobbyists and the staff at influence him as well as the leader in the Senate.

02:19.  So they have been, they've trick Trump, you think, into carrying on with this bill?

Yeah.

CARRIE MADEJ: No one has ever died from the tetanus bacteria. But Tetanus vaccines do kill fertility. Huh

the World Health Organization and NIH have since 1972 been developing the tetanus vaccine as an abortion or sterilization vaccine.  --Carrie Madej

Here is the full interview.

. . . why do we have to take the tetanus vaccine every 10 years?  And just to shorten this for time's sake, I ended up finding out, asking all of my attending physicians, infectious disease experts, we found out that the reason they told us back then to take it was that when you are walking out in the yard, you have a rusty nail in your foot, the bacteria called tetanus gets in there and within minutes to hours, not days or weeks, you could spasm so terribly that you would suffocate to death, fall on the floor, and die, like within minutes to hours, which I've never heard of anyone dying that way.  So come to find out that is a lie.  No one has died that way.  Nobody in the entire world, in recorded history, right, has died that way.  So why are they giving it out if that's a lie, right?  So I was doing an observation on my rotations in Detroit, Michigan when I was training and I saw that they gave some people the tetanus vaccine, and some not, as a protocol.  And the ones that were on welfare did not get it, but the ones on private pay did, which didn't make sense.  But I saw there's a huge difference in fertility.  Huge. The people who didn't get it were extremely fertile.  The people who did had a lot of problems with fertility.  I Googled it then, and sure enough you can still find this if you Google it . . . that the World Health Organization and NIH have since 1972 been developing the tetanus vaccine as an abortion or sterilization vaccine.  They've been putting the pregnancy hormone inside the tetanus vaccine in that vial.  And so every time you get it, it's an accumulative response.  Your body will then see, if you're female, you'll see . . . or when you're getting pregnant, you'll have a higher and higher hCG level, right?  Well, then your body will learn to attack that.  It's going to attack an early pregnancy.  So then you wouldn't even know if, if you got pregnant in the first place.  So they have absolutely used this in Latino countries, Africa, and India.  I absolutely believe they were using it here in the US, although they deny it. Although you look on the World Health Organization website, oh, they've had tons of vaccines they've been developing, they've been testing out, they've been utilizing on us for decades and lying to the doctors, lying to the other people.  So my point is that these are the organizations standing behind the COVID-19 shot . . .

IXNAY ON THE POLYESTER, EH?

KATIE HALPER: it's pretty messed up to, to do that and then say that people are upset about it because they're anti-Semites as opposed to being upset about it because they don't like to see kids literally shredded into pieces.

If you have any doubts about Israel's concern for Jewish safety and the lives of Jews, which is their whole schtick, just look at the way they treat the hostages.  They shot their own hostages.  They killed their own on October 7th. They used the Hannibal Directive, and they shot their own hostages, who were holding White flags, speaking in Hebrew, and they bombed places that they knew the hostages were in.  If they wanted to free hostages and save Jewish lives, they would negotiate.  That's what you always do when you want to save the lives of hostages, you negotiate, you do a prisoner exchange.  And we know that they know that because they've done that in the past.  But they care more about killing Palestinians than saving Jews.

00:41.  Yeah, and so the ceasefire has ended and the killing ensues . . .

And also, how dare they live- stream a genocide!  First of all, that's unforgivable in itself, right, but then on top of that they're saying that they're doing it in the name of Jews and they're weaponizing the attempted extermination of Jews to justify an attempted extermination of Palestinians. It's just disgusting.  And I'm also kind of tired of people saying, "Well, you know, they're not doing exactly what the Nazis did, so it's okay."  No, that's not the point of the Genocide Convention.  The Genocide Convention wasn't "as long as you don't do exactly what the Nazis did, you're A-okay." And it's interesting, you know, a Jew developed the genocide definition, Lemkin. That's not the point of it to say "as long as you kill not quite as many people as Nazis, as long as you don't use gas chambers."  I mean when are people going to realize that Israel is a menace.  It's a terrorist state.  It really is a terrorist State.  Now to be fair, so is the United States but I say their ratio of terrorism to non-terrorism, in the case of Israel, [Israel] is greater than it is for the United States. And then they live-stream a genocide, they say it's in the name of Jews, and then also claim to be combating anti-semitism.  I mean how, what's a better way to create anti-Semitism than to kill people, maim them, children, women, civilians, men, too.  It's kind of messed up that men get, you know, that their lives don't matter.  All Palestinian lives matter.  But it's pretty messed up to, to do that and then say that people are upset about it because they're anti-Semites as opposed to being upset about it because they don't like to see kids literally into pieces.

SABINE HAZAN: Bifidobacteria are, I believe, our longevity

When we started looking at bifidobacteria, we realized that bifidobacteria was absent in kids with autism.  That bifidobacteria was absent in Alzheimer's patients.  Bifidobacteria was absent in long-haulers, vaccine injured, lime patients, Crohn's patients, invasive cancers.  Then when you look at who has bifidobacteria, the newborns have a lot of bifidobacteria.  Old people have zero bifidobacteria, nursing home, the dying, zero bifidobacteria.  The process of aging is really this loss of bifidobacteria.  And I think we have expanded.  I think, if you believe the Bible, you know, people lived a long lot longer in the olden days during Biblical times than we are right now. We are barely making it to 70, 80 years old, and not really healthy 70, 80 years old.  The mind starts going so . . . is the mind starting to go because of the loss of bifidobacteria?

WHAT INCREASES BIFIDOBACTERIA?

And when you start looking at what improves bifidobacteria?  So our lab discovered vitamin C improves bifidobiacteria.  Our lab discovered bovine immunoglobulins, the blood of the cow spun around, that clear stuff, provided that the cow is not is not on a lot of antibiotics, it's not given a lot of hormones, it's not given like thousands of vaccines.  So when you start looking at all that, you start seeing the importance of bifidobacteria and you start seeing, even me, you know, with progenobiome, looking at the stool samples before the pandemic.  During the pandemic and after the pandemic there is a lot of disappearance of bifidobacteria.  Is that why we are having an increase in Alzheimer's, an increase in cancers, have we demolished this bifidobacteria?  So to me that's a very important microbe that I believe is our longevity.  If we can retain it, and it's not easy to retain in a world that's toxic and in a world where we are given media full of stress, where we are divided, we are constantly nervous of the next pandemic or the next virus.  It's almost like this bottle that you're shaking and it's full of gas and you just need to put it on the counter and let it just calm down, right?  So, yes, I think it's a very important microbe.

RILEY CHECK: Johnson & Johnson has been around for 139 years and never cured anything. Pfizer has been around for 175 years and never cured anything . . . .

MARTIN ARMSTRONG: Trump's Tariffs Are Winning

Thank you to Martin Armstrong's "Trump's Tariffs Are Winning" @ Armstrong Economics, April 4, 2025.

I have said on various podcasts that a 10% tariff is really a tariff. Beyond that, it is political to force free trade. Most countries are dropping tariffs on US goods, creating what Trump actually was trying to create – FREE TRADE. The belligerent one is, of course, France. Macron has a Napoleon Complex, which is why he has been pushing for war, offering nukes to Germany, and trying to supplant the United States as the savior of Europe, being the 3rd largest nuclear power.

“The tariffs give us great power to negotiate. They always have,” Trump told reporters Thursday aboard Air Force One a day after his Rose Garden “Liberation Day” tariff announcement sunk the market to its lowest point since the COVID-19 pandemic.

I have received many inquiries about the US Reciprocal Tariffs announced on April 2, 2025. The justification for these tariffs can be found in President Trump’s Executive Order, which may be found here. I am not an expert in tariff law. Nonetheless, parts of the Executive Order are open to interpretation by experts, and the end result remains fluid from one day to the next right now. Therefore, it is important to consult with a customs broker before importing or exporting to the US. It is always a matter of interpretation.

Macron is belligerent and, like Carney in Canada and Democrats in the USA, whatever Trump does, he must do the opposite. Macron, according to sources, is urging full retaliation against Trump that the EU should block all US goods and push for capital controls to prevent money from flowing to the US. He already uses non-tariffs pretending it to be “quality” control outright blocking some products.

However, Macron is also pushing for war with Russia, offering Germany nukes to replace the US as the savior of Europe. He thinks war will elevate France to the leadership of Europe because of its nukes. Macron has always had a problem with sparkling wines in California being labeled Champagne. The French reinterpreted the label “Champagne” to be the origin rather than how it is produced. Champagne, made in France, is produced using the méthode champenoise. If that bottle is produced using the exact same method, anywhere else, it must carry a different name, but that was part of the Treaty after World War II, and it was meant to punish Germany. But the US never ratified that treaty, so it never applied to the United States.
Sparkling wines have been produced in California since about 1860, and they were introduced by European immigrants, including those from France. Since then, the term Champagne has been used to refer to the type of wine, not where it was made. Here is an advertisement from 1866 offering North American-produced Champagne. Macron does not care how it is made; he wants to redefine the word “Champagne” to mean France as the area where it is produced rather than the type. This is just an example of dealing with the EU.

First, keep in mind that these tariffs, broad as they are, are being levied under the President’s “Emergency Powers.” This means that the usual statutory exemptions for antiques and other collectibles, which are referenced in the HTS Codes, may not seem to apply, depending on who does the interpretation. Does this executive order overrule the statutory exemptions covering antiquities when, in fact, the purpose of the tariffs focuses on currently manufactured goods, not antiquities of more than 100 years old?

While executive orders are powerful tools for presidential action, they cannot override statutes. In cases of conflict, statutes prevail unless the executive order operates within constitutional or delegated authority. Courts serve as the ultimate arbiter, ensuring adherence to the separation of powers.

So what does it mean for antiquities? According to Section 2 of the Executive Order,

The additional ad valorem duty on all imports from all trading partners shall start at 10 percent, and shortly thereafter, the additional ad valorem duty shall increase for trading partners enumerated in Annex I to this order at the rates set forth in Annex I to this order. These additional ad valorem duties shall apply until I determine that the underlying conditions described above are satisfied, resolved, or mitigated. However, since an executive order cannot act unconstitutionally, it should not be interpreted as overruling a valid statute defining the exemption.

Moreover, according to Section 3,

a) Except as otherwise provided in this order, all articles imported into the customs territory of the United States shall be, consistent with law, subject to an additional ad valorem rate of duty of 10 percent. Such rates of duty shall apply with respect to goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m. Eastern daylight time on April 5, 2025, except that goods loaded onto a vessel at the port of loading and in transit on the final mode of transit before 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on April 5, 2025, and entered for consumption or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption after 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on April 5, 2025, shall not be subject to such additional duty.

Furthermore, except as otherwise provided in this order, at 12:01 a.m. Eastern daylight time on April 9, 2025, all articles from trading partners enumerated in Annex I to this order imported into the customs territory of the United States shall be, consistent with law, subject to the country-specific ad valorem rates of duty specified in Annex I to this order. Such rates of duty shall apply with respect to goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m. Eastern daylight time on April 9, 2025, except that goods loaded onto a vessel at the port of loading and in transit on the final mode of transit before 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on April 9, 2025, and entered for consumption or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption after 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on April 9, 2025, shall not be subject to these country-specific ad valorem rates of duty set forth in Annex I to this order. These country-specific ad valorem rates of duty shall apply to all articles imported pursuant to the terms of all existing U.S. trade agreements, except as provided below.

Therefore, under Section 3 (b) (v) of the Executive Order, it is suggested that things like antiquities should be exempt under the Executive Order because they are generally exempt from tariffs under the Harmonized Tariff schedule. Furthermore, there is a statutory exemption for “informational” materials under 15 USC 1702(b). While this certainly applies to artwork and our reports, informational materials are exempt. Additionally, I should note that, for the time being at least, there is a separate exemption for low-value shipments under $800 under 19 USC 1321, which an executive order cannot nullify.

IS THAT EXPLOSIVES THERE, DARLIN'?

Thank you to Martin Armstrong's "Tariffs Are NOT Reciprocal," @ Armstrong Economics, April 4, 2025.

How did the Trump Administration come up with these tariff rates? Why would a nation like Madagascar, for example, with a small economy, be hit with a 47% tariff? Reciprocal tariffs were determined based on America’s trade deficit with other nations. They took each nation’s trade surplus with the US by total exports and divided that number by two, proclaiming we are asking them for half of what they have been charging the United States.

The assumption behind this method is that a trade surplus means one country is “taking advantage” of the other. However, trade imbalances do not function in such a cut-and-dry manner. The US runs trade deficits with some countries while running surpluses with others. The global economy is interconnected, and imposing arbitrary tariffs based on a deficit does not reflect the broader picture.

For example, China may have a surplus with the US, but it also imports raw materials from other nations to manufacture goods. If the US places a retaliatory tariff, it does not necessarily mean that China has been unfairly charging the US. China’s advantages of natural resources and lower production costs are part of the trade deal. There is a reason the US and China were once the largest trading partners, as China relied on American consumers the same way that America relied on cheaper Chinese goods. China was then investing in US debt, which it once viewed as a safe trade, but that is no longer the case, and America will suffer as a result. All of these measures are causing America’s trading partners to flee.

Look at Canada, where the population is far smaller than America’s, which is one of many variables. There is less demand overall and while Canada relied on the US for numerous imports, America was not subsidizing Canada. A trade deficit is not a subsidy! The US pays for Canadian goods and services with USD, which Canada then reinvests in the US economy. This is how global trade works; it is not a one-way street where Canada simply takes advantage of the US.

We cannot expect a complete balance in trading. Look at poorer nations—they simply could never purchase the same volume from America. Wages in these nations are far less than the US minimum wage, and thus, production is cheaper from a labor standpoint alone. For example, no one from Cambodia will be seeking an American-made car. A Cambodian factory will not move operations to the US to avoid the 49% tariff.  They will look for alternative buyers outside of the US. Imbalances are a natural part of trade. Treasury Secretary Bessent said, “Let them eat flat screens,” but that is not the core of the issue. Americans did enjoy cheaper goods, but the bigger issue is that these tariffs make American investments LESS attractive as major companies cannot operate from a purely domestic standpoint.

The calculations do not factor in currency exchanges. Capital flows and currency values often influence trade deficits. If foreign capital flows into the US to buy Treasury bonds, real estate, or equities, it strengthens the USD, making US exports more expensive and imports cheaper. This is not a function of unfair trade practices but of the global demand for US assets.

By imposing tariffs arbitrarily, the cost of imported goods rises, which can negatively impact domestic industries that rely on those goods. Most American manufacturers rely on foreign goods to operate or finalize their “Made in America” products. Hiking up tariffs will cause the cost of production to soar. The workforce will shrink as profits decrease. Consumers bear the brunt of these policies through higher prices.

The assumption that tariffs should be determined by “half of the surplus” rule ignores the reality that trade wars are not linear. These tariffs are NOT “reciprocal” as the Trump Administration insists. They are not looking at the actual tariffs set by other nations. Those advising Trump believe that other countries will want to negotiate “tariffs” to permit free trade, but instead they are simply hoping to close trade deficits, and that simply cannot occur. Thursday’s sell-off is indicative of capital flowing out of the US. The Trump Administration basically told the world that America is closed for international business, and capital is responding to the threat. The real impact of these tariffs will soon come as we move deeper into a period of stagflation.

HAL CRANMER: Muscle loss equals memory loss. The Fix? Strength training

Ignore your body's clues about health, and you could be setting yourself up for Alzheimer's or dementia later in life.

CLUE #1: Muscle loss equals memory loss.

Scientists have found that frail people with low muscle mass have significantly worse brain function as they age.

[THE FIX?] Strength training. Building muscle equals building brain power.

CLUE #2:  High blood sugar. Type 2 diabetics have a 60% higher risk of developing dementia.  Alzheimer's is being called type 3 diabetes because high blood sugar wreaks havoc on brain cells.

[THE FIX?]  Cut sugar.  Go low carb.  You control glucose and you control your future brain function.

CLUE #3:  Vision loss.  Vision loss is a massive red flag for cognitive decline.  Your retina is part of your brain coming out of your skull.  Don't ignore poor vision.  Start improving your retina and your brain with diet and exercise.

CLUE #4:  Hearing loss. People with sustained hearing loss have a 37% higher risk of dementia.  Hearing loss equals brain shrinkage.

[THE FIX?]  If you're suffering hearing loss, look into hearing aids early.

CLUE #5:  Bad teeth.  Keep that bacteria out of your mouth and out of your brain through good dental hygiene.

Take care of your body, and you'll take care of your brain.
