therapeutics that replenished the Bifidobacteria, such as vitamins C and D and ivermectin improved patient survival rates

Gastroenterologist and CEO of ProgenaBiome, Dr. Sabine Hazan, has said that the COVID-19 vaccine may cause immunosuppression by reducing good Bifidobacteria in the gut. She showed that after COVID-19 mRNA vaccination, Bifidobacteria levels dropped by half among her trial participants.

Bifidobacteria are essential for boosting intestinal immunity. Dr. Hazan’s earlier work showed that people with reduced Bifidobacteria in the gut were at risk of severe COVID-19 infections, and therapeutics that replenished the Bifidobacteria, such as vitamins C and D and ivermectin improved patient survival rates. She also told how her clinical trials on COVID early treatment were sabotaged during the pandemic . . .

Adults Need 50 ng/ml Vitamin D Daily. That Translates to 5,300 IU

The goal then for a daily healthy immune system is 50 ng/ml.  For a translation, that means 5,300 IUs of vitamin D.

20 ng/ml . . . 1000 IU
30 ng/ml . . . 2200 IU
40 ng/ml . . . 3600 IU
50 ng/ml . . . 5300 IU
60 ng/ml . . . 7400 IU

70 ng/ml . . . 10100 IU

Check this out:

Everyone needs at least 50 ng/mL 125nmol/L 25-hydroxyvitamin D for their immune system to function properly.  Without proper vitamin D3 supplementation, most people's 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels are 1/2 to 1/10th this - greatly raising the risk of severe symptoms from COVID-19, Kawasaki disease, Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome and sepsis.

Here are the live links that appear in the above graphic.

1.  Serum Vitamin D levels are associated with increased COVID-19 severity and mortality independent of visceral adiposity | medRxiv

That article explains that to fight any disease, you need a minimum of 50 ng/ml of vitamin D to have a fortified immune system to fight anything.  Most people don't think vitamins work.  They won't turn you into a Popeye, though some can, but they'll give you immunity so that you can stay productive.

2.  Greater risk of severe COVID-19 in Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic populations is not explained by cardiometabolic, socioeconomic or behavioural factors, or by 25(OH)-vitamin D status: study of 1326 cases from the UK Biobank - PubMed (nih.gov)

4.  Vitamin D status of children with paediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (PIMS-TS) - PubMed (nih.gov).  The idea here is the same in the others above--that vitamin D deficiency outcomes are worse.  Don't know how to put it any plainer.  The last line in the abstract reads, ". . . public health measures to improve vitamin D status of the UK BAME population have been long overdue."  So, it looks like in the UK, they're trying to make vitamin D a prescription of public health policy.

5.  Nutrition to reduce COVID-19 serious harm and death (aminotheory.com).  This paper argues for vitamin D to improve against COVID-19.  C19 and Ivermectin.  But how does one get IV without a prescription?  Is an airport in Mexico the only way?

It offers a good link here:

Remineralize your teeth with magnesium, D, and A. Dump the Xylitol

For years I'd been looking for just the right treatment for healthy teeth. I initially thought that fluoride-free toothpaste was a good place to start, so I used that for a few years only to find years later a couple if cracked teeth and loose fillings that fell out.  I don't know that I am in a better position today, but I think I am.  One product I'd read about early on was Xylitol, a sugar-free substitute that also fought oral bacteria to keep cavities to a minimum.  So I began chewing Xylitol gum.  It was refreshing but, truth be told, I really didn't like the funny film it left in my mouth and on my teeth.  I began the Xylitol on the recommendations of Dr. Ellie Phillips.  But the problem with focusing on just your mouth or just your teeth is that you ignore the connection that the biome in your mouth has with the biome of your digestive tract, of which your mouth is just the beginning.  So I stopped consuming the Xylitol after a week but saw it advertised everywhere and included in all mints, gums, and more, which I assume he was eating on behalf of a score of others throughout the day.  It wasn't until I saw this that it confirmed my concerns.  Though the target audience is dogs, it is also directed at dog owners:

Then there's this.

Here is the link to Nourishing Our Children.

The guy who really came to my rescue was Bill Sardi, who the world lost recently.  He was such a loving, careful, but fearless guide.  With his "34 Ways to Stay Healthy," Bill pointed me to Dr. Carolyn Dean, MD, ND. who recommends brushing your teeth with magnesium.  I'd had other conversations will Sardi regarding teeth.  No one was more helpful than Bill.  It was like having your own private doctor whom you could get a reply to any health-related question you had. And he was a workhorse.  Writing articles for publication at LewRockwell, conducting interviews with Martie Whittekin at HBN, doing hours of strenuous research online, and then answering everybody's emails.  I loved him, and I miss him.

Last year, I asked him, "What can I take to keep more teeth in my head?  Thank you."  His reply was, "Boost testosterone.  12mg boron," then added not one but two articles linked in the email. Just amazed that he would go to such effort to help me, which I presume he was doing with a score of others throughout the day.  A true Christian man.  What's interesting is that I had considered boron a tooth enamel supplement but was waved off that conclusion a year earlier by someone else.

TIMES of ISRAEL: "strong correlation between sufficient vitamin D levels and ability to fight the coronavirus still held"

It is interesting to see how the media is working to bury the whole vaccine debacle.  They've taken the people's prospects from grim to worse after a 3rd and 4th shot only to portray the obvious--a crashing of immunity across all populations.  This was a  surprise?  Suddenly, governments around the world are "DISCOVERING" that a vitamin D deficiency forecasts outcomes.  This was not news.  The benefits of Vitamin D have ridden a 25-to-30-year wave of popularity.  But scientists and their experts are learning this only now?  Someone in the Fauci $6 billion-dollar chain of command has ordered scientists to now, only now, to talk about the benefits of vitamin D and how the real culprit is not so much the SARS_Co-V-2, no.  Instead, it's a vitamin D deficiency.  And even though the results have come back as remarkable, the report on the study fails to identify how much vitamin D was applied to achieve those "remarkable" results.

And then to run cover for their dealy in this "news," the author of the report, Nathan Jeffay, offers only a feigned sense of scientific distancing,

They found that the strong correlation between sufficient vitamin D levels and ability to fight the coronavirus still held, and the level of increased danger in their preliminary findings remained almost identical.

So he goes from causation, ". . . study offers strongest proof yet of vitamin D's power to fight COVID," to correlation, "They found that the strong correlation between sufficient vitamin D levels and ability to fight the coronavirus still held . . . ."  So the best they can do is soft-pedal a recommendation?  What the Times of Israel and Nathan Jeffay fail to understand is that you not only need to take magnesium with vitamin D but you ALSO need glutathione.  Also, Magnesium Girl may be on to something.  It may not be vitamin D alone that brings you back from the brink, but it may actually be magnesium.  I've seen her recommend magnesium glycinate in several posts.

TO MAKE VITAMIN D THERAPY SUCCESSFUL, YOU NEED TO HAVE ADEQUATE GLUTATHIONE IN YOUR BLOOD

This was interesting because everyone is under the assumption that vitamin D is a near-cure-all.  Don't get wrong.  Vitamin D all by itself has saved me from two seriously stressed occasions at work. So as a fortifying compound, I take 8,000 IU of vitamin D every day.  But all by itself, D has its limits in treating some of the more serious conditions.  Yes, you need magnesium to improve its absorption.  But it looks Glutathione is the key ingredient if you want to enjoy all the benefits of D.

The improvement in GSH [glutathione] status that results from co-supplementation with VD [vitamin D] and l-cysteine [NAC, pick it up from one of these distributors] (LC; a GSH precursor) significantly reduced oxidative stress in a mouse model of 25(OH)VD deficiency. It also positively upregulated VD regulatory genes (VDBP/VD-25-hydroxylase/VDR) in the liver and glucose metabolism genes (PGC-1α/VDR/GLUT-4) in muscle, boosted 25(OH)VD, and reduced inflammation and insulin resistance (IR) levels in the blood compared with supplementation with VD alone. In vitro GSH deficiency caused increased oxidative stress and downregulation of VDBP/VD-25-hydroxylase/VDR and upregulation of CYP24a1 in hepatocytes and downregulation of PGC-1α/VDR/GLUT-4 in myotubes. This study demonstrates that improvement in the GSH status exerts beneficial effects on the blood levels of 25(OH)VD, as well as on the inflammation and IR in a VD-deficient mouse model. Thus, the VD supplements widely consumed by the public are unlikely to be successful unless the GSH status is also corrected.

TAKE VITAMIN D3 CONSTANTLY: If you wait until you actually get the virus, it's already too late.

Once they have a virus, take 50 milligrams [of zinc] two times a day for one week and that hits the virus on the head within hours.

As the first line of defense, we should be dealing with people's immune systems in the safest way possible.

8:05  How much vitamin D? 50 to 100 grams/milliliter.  4,000IUs, but he did mention that people can do 50,000IUs a day for 6 months without any adverse effects.

10:40  25 milligrams of zinc is extremely safe; you can take up to 40mg a day without any ill effects in most adults.  You go above that and you reduce the absorption of copper.    How much zinc?  50mg

11:05  You asked me about vitamin D.  4,000 units.  But people who are overweight need up to or over 8,000 to 10,000 units or more per day.

How much vitamin K2?  200mgs per day, every day.  Because vitamin D does cause the release of calcium from the bones into the blood and you want to try to avoid any deposition of that in the wrong places.

To fight infections like COVID, you'd want to have levels of vitamin D above 50 grams.  With each higher dose of vitamin D, it triggers the protein and genetic pathways that people need to do better.

Virtually every cell in your body has vitamin D receptors.  Therefore, . . . take your vitamin D.  Your body is waiting, hungering to feel better.  A lot of vitamin D's functions are immunomodulatory that actually directs the immune system to work in a better way.  If you combine vitamin D with zinc, which has significant effects on viral infections, boosts the cells' ability to kill viruses, including cancer.

Get enough sleep.  Get outside, get some sun.  Engage in sports.  It's very much about looking after yourself.

15:30  If you want the derided compound, Hydroxychloroquine to work, it works in combination with zinc.  It seems that that makes the difference.  You don't want a zinc deficiency.  Studies have shown that zinc does improve the immune response to viral infections.  And, I can say anecdotally, that I use it on a daily basis [as a physician] for viral infections.  Once they have a virus, take 50 milligrams two times a day for one week, and that hits the virus on the head within hours.

Cytotoxic lymphocytes need zinc to function properly.  Without Cytotoxic Lymphocytes, what viral infection--it's going to run right over you.

Whereas zinc works straight away on a virus, vitamin D needs to be metabolized.  What does that mean?  You need at least a few days beforehand to get into your system, therefore, I just tell people to take it constantly.  You want to take it for at least a few weeks beforehand, seeing as you don't know when you're going to get CVID, you could get COVID twice easily.  If you wait until you actually get the virus, it's already too late.  Even people who've received high doses after they get the virus--they've done studies with 50,000, 200,000 units of vitamin D given as a shot at the time of admission to the hospital, it probably does have some immunomodulatory effect but it takes time to kick in.  It takes a few days, by which stage the person could be a lot farther down the illness with COVID.  They could be onto a much later stage of COVID whereby they're already ventilated.  And the whole idea of this is to prevent that.

Yes, we know it has to be metabolized by the liver and it has to be metabolized by the kidneys.  I can remember patients with renal failure, for example, who couldn't metabolize their vitamin D.

After metabolism, you've got to make sure it has its effects on the genetics of the body, on the immune system, and that presumably takes longer.

High doses of vitamin D.

He neglects to mention it but for D to be absorbable, you must take magnesium.  That means you must take magnesium with vitamin D.

A strong immune system is your best mask. Vitamin D delivers that strong immunity. Fauci takes 8,000 to 9,000 IUs of vitamin D3

Thanks to Robert Wenzel.

This presentation is a full hour.  This YouTube version is only 29 minutes long.  To watch the full presentation, please open this Rumble link.  The presenter is pathologist and MD, Dr. Ryan Cole.  His credentials are here

Dr. Cole is a board-certified dermatopathologist (AP & CP) and the CEO/Medical Director of Cole Diagnostics. He has worked as an independent pathologist since 2004. Some highlights from his CV: Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology (July 2002-June 2003): Dermatopathology Fellowship (Chief Fellow). Mayo Clinic (July 1997-June 2002): Resident in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Chief Fellow, Surgical Pathology Fellowship. Medical College of Virginia (1993-1997): Researched immunology. Served as President of Student Family Practice organization. Coordinated activities and seminars on the practice of family medicine and rural medicine. Earned MD in 1997.

Fauci takes 8,000 to 9,000 IUs of vitamin D3.  But what's his message?  Wear a mask, maybe two.  Why isn't his message to take 10,000IU of vitamin D?

Dr. Cole praises the effectiveness of Ivermectin, calling it an immune modulator and anti-viral medication.  And if anyone has had any one of the vaccines and experiences a cytokine storm, he says that Ivermectin may be your best choice for quelling that storm.  That, and vitamin D.

"HEALTH IS AN INSIDE OUT PHENOMENON"

1:55  We no longer have a pandemic.  We have a planned, controlled demolition of the human race.  We heard early on that zinc, high-dose vitamin C, we’ve known forever that vitamin D is the base molecule of your immune system that needs to support you.  And I was saying early on that if you’re going to get tested for anything don’t get tested for COVID, don’t get tested for SARS-COV2, go get your vitamin D levels tested.  And make sure your vitamin D levels are between 80 and 100 in order for it to be therapeutic to protect you from infection.

Get zinc level tested because they can do that' it's actually a blood test.  And zinc as a mineral is a co-factor in more than 200 enzymes.  And so enzymes are like the energy, the energy factories that make things happen.  A co-factor is like a key that turns things on and makes them work.  So zinc is important for more than 200 enzymatic processes in your body.  Hydroxychloroquine is a zinc ionosphere, so that zinc could hook up with the enzymes and do its job.  It would bind to the surface of the cell and drive zinc into the cell, making zinc more absorbable.

Quercetin functions as a zinc ionosphere that helps zinc get into the cells.  Quercetin drives the zinc into the cells, and so it gives you this natural holistic approach as a prevention to keep your body's enzymes function very well in the presence of zinc.  35-50 mg every day.  And if you start to get sick with fever, aches, body aches, it doesn't have to be SARS-COVID2, it can be any other sickness, it could influenza, it could be pneumococcus, it could be any other virus or bacteria.  You want to double the amount of zinc that you're taking every day--double it and take it daily until you start feeling better.

Vitamin D: 80-100

Zinc: 35-50/day unless you're feeling sick.  Double it until you start feeling better.  Take zinc with Quercetin, 500mg once a day.  If you get sick, take 500mg twice a day.

Vitamin C: the best form of vitamin C is vitamin C ascorbate.  It's the salt form, not citric acid, but the salt form.  Dr. Tenpenny recommends the powdered form because you can give it to people of any age from infants all the way up to centenarians.  About 3,000mg/day.

Fauci doesn't even treat patients.  I don't think he's treated patients in 35 years, maybe more.  He's been a political wonk . . . in a department working for the government.  So what the heck does he know about vitamins or homeopathy?  And it never ceases to amaze me how political wonks, mainstream MDs, and mainstream DOs, mainstream doctors, claim to be experts in something that absolutely know nothing about.  How can you make any statement about vitamins if you don't know the mechanism of action or about how they work in your system?  How can you make statements like that that homeopathy is going to harm you if you know absolutely nothing about homeopathy?  So it never ceases to amaze me

Manganese, calcium, magnesium, and so on for proper functioning of the Kreb's Cycle.

Doctors function like glorified pharmacists.  Sometimes the pharmacists know more than the doctors.  Sugar, milk, bread burn through your minerals and provide only empty calories.

"Tony Fauci couldn't possibly have made his claim, that COVID-19 is 10 times more deadly than the flu, with any scientific basis."

Give this a full listen when you have a chance.
Robert Wenzel has been posting terrific updates and sound, meaning logical, latest news on the COVID-19 and the government enflaming the concern.  Wenzel writes
The [above] interview of Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, professor of medicine at Stanford University, by Peter Robinson, is awesome.
They begin by discussing the problems with current testing that I have been highlighting here and the fact that Trump's adviser Tony Fauci couldn't possibly have made his claim, that COVID-19 is 10 times more deadly than the flu, with any scientific basis.
Be sure to watch at least the first 9 minutes.
It is also good to know that Bhattacharya is about to start properly designed general population serological tests, which he discusses later in the clip.
Until then, load up on vitamin D.

VITAMIN D SUPPLEMENTATION REDUCES THE RISK OF RESPIRATORY INFECTION [HINT: THAT'S THE COVID-19]

This should not come as a secret or a surprise to any visitors to this site.  Unfortunately, Former CDC Director, Tom Frieden was interviewed by John Roberts, long-time CBS Anchor.  The problem is that Roberts leads the questioning and the answers that Frieden gives are standard: stay at home, quarantine a person infected, etc., etc., etc., ad infinitum.  Is he talking to 6-year-olds?  Anyone old enough, from a 9-year-old child to an octogenarian, knows that if you're sick with anything that you stay home.  Now it is true that though high school kids may know this they don't heed this warning because they've got friends to attend to, they've got games and projects that need their hands on.  So it's true that some people need to have this message droned into their head, but if you're at all conscientious you're not going to want to get people sick and sabotage their productivity.

So take your daily vitamin D for the reasons that Dr. Frieden states here,
Vitamin D supplementation reduces the risk of respiratory infectionregulates cytokine production and can limit the risk of other viruses such as influenza. A respiratory infection can result in cytokine storms – a vicious cycle in which our inflammatory cells damage organs throughout the body – which increase mortality for those with COVID-19. Adequate Vitamin D may potentially provide some modest protection for vulnerable populations.
Frieden is downplaying the effectiveness of vitamin D because as a former government agent, he has to stay on the plantation narrative of "shelter in place," "accept martial law," "self-quarantine," "wear a mask," "wash your hands," etc., etc., etc.

Check out what Dr. John Cannell, owner of the Vitamin D Council site, has to say about what vitamin D does for you.  Then check out what Creighton University professor, Robert P. Heaney says about the protective effects of vitamin D, which go way beyond strengthening your immune system.  Need more evidence?  Scroll down this page about 2/3 to find other vitamin D experts to see what they say about what it does and how it can restore your health.  Like I said, I've covered the powerful effects of vitamin D several times.  It's too important a supplement not to have in your daily arsenal.

I've had good results with this brand.  And the price is not bad either.

ZINC SUPPLEMENTATION SHORTENS THE DURATION OF COLDS BY APPROX. 33%

The best thing for bronchitis is 2-4 mg of vitamin C every 4 hours, OptiZinc because it's the most absorbable variety and 10,000 to 40,000IU of vitamin D for one week.  Be sure to add vitamin A to that to make the D more absorbable.  NCBI observes that
Considering zinc, the supplementation may shorten the duration of colds by approximately 33%.
Consider in a 72 hour period what a double dose of zinc would do to bronchitis?  One of the reasons why I think zinc works so well with most people is that most people are zinc deficient.  We just never got enough growing up, and so our innate immunity may only be bolstered by innate things that kids do, like playing outdoors.  Certainly, with oysters being the highest in zinc content when it comes to food, my guess is that few kids are consuming oysters on a regular basis.  So by the time we're in our 20s, 30s, and 40s, we're kind of zinc deficient.  There are benefits to maintaining your immune system in the first place.  Most people don’t really enjoy the activity of self-care since it involves daily calorie vigilance or supplement intakes or exercise or all three.  It’s a full-time job with little to no reward except when you get sick.  But who wants to commit to a regimen that only minimizes or prevents you from getting sick?  Not much of a reward there at the end of that rainbow, huh, Kimosabe?  But look at what this study published at NCBI stated,
Maintaining the immune defense system within a normal healthy state lowers the incidence of infection and/or lessens the severity of symptoms and/or shortens the duration of common colds.
But if you don’t like getting sick in the first place, if you’d prefer to be on top of your vocational game 24/7, then I recommend supplementing, in part, because of the accumulative effect of stress.  We don’t see a cold or fever coming on.  When I got bronchitis recently, I sure couldn’t see it coming on.  But I was out working late in the snow and did not prepare for the extended hours out in that cold, snowy evening.  And I worked late into that night.  I like working.  I like completing assignments, which I did but at a cost.  The bronchitis was deep in my chest.  And my cough was productive for one full week.  But I took exactly what I described above and the symptoms shortened, and I believe the duration of bronchitis itself shortened.  There is no greater pleasure than being able to breathe fully.  Take that inhale, oh, yeah!
Here is a final sampling of how zinc up-regulates your innate immunity . . . from NCBI:
Zinc supplementation increases cellular components of innate immunity (e.g., phagocytosis by macrophages and neutrophils, natural killer cell activity, and generation of oxidative burst) [10].
Neutrophil granulocytes, macrophages: large amounts of oral zinc significantly impaired polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL) function and, in vitro, zinc potentiated the neutrophil response against Staphylococcus aureus [11]. Zn supplementation (150mg/d) in elderly also induces a decrease in granulocyte zinc that has implications in phagocytosis and chemotaxis [41].
Natural killer: a supplementation of zinc (in vitro studies or 100mg/d in elderly) improves natural killer (NK) cells activity, as argued by a lot of authors [9113942]. Zinc administration decreased peripheral.
For more on zinc from one of the best nutritional reviewers in the English-speaking world, check out what Bill Sardi says about zinc.

SUNDAY NIGHT COMIC RELIEF

Given the latest terror with which we are supposed to process our concerns with the Coronavirus, Carlin offers some relevant and welcomed comic relief.

N.B. profanity.

If you're at all concerned about the Coronavirus, the best assessment again comes from Bill Sardi.  He asserts that the widespread fear could be a contrived pandemic designed to sell vaccines.

Your chances of developing symptoms or dying from the menacing Coronavirus that now threatens global human populations is 0.0000017482% for developing symptoms and 0.0000001137% for dying from it.  I think you're safe.

Hope you're enjoying the Superbowl.  3rd Quarter at 3:47: it's 49ers, 13, Chiefs, 10.  If not, then enjoy the George Carlin show.

FLUORIDE OR NO? IT'S THE METHOD THAT MATTERS

Fluoride gas or liquid mixed into your water supply, without your permission, is none too nice.  Who gave the county or municipal water authorities permission to put a chemical, a drug, into the water supply for everyone to ingest?  Good question.  Who authorized such a move?

Without ever getting an answer to that question, what we usually hear is that fluoride was put into the water supply because the city deemed it beneficial for consumer's or resident's teeth.  Well, thank you very much.  Can I have another?  So as city or county officials bide their time while residents debate the benefits to their teeth of fluoride in the water, that helps to deflect any accounting or criticism thereof.  So one antagonist is the city or county.  So let's test this theory that fluoride in the water supply protects teeth from getting cavities or the more technical term, caries.  And just because dentists provide fluoride treatments, does that ensure that fluoride is of benefit?  Let's see.  At least at the dentist, we have a choice.  We can say no thank you to Dr. Eagan, whereas the government forces their edicts on residents in a given territory whether they want the stuff or not.

Ardent researcher, Bill Sardi, points out that very little fluoride from fluoridated water is consumed.
Why it’s even been shown that fluoride in tap water never reaches saliva levels to prevent dental caries. [Journal Environment Public Health 2013]  And was the rational to fluoridate tap water to prevent dental decay just a cover for population control? [Journal Toxicology Environmental Health1994]
So, fluoride in fluoridated water does not prevent cavities.  Does this mean that the amount of fluoride that we ingest from fluoridated water is okay for us?  Not exactly.  From the article that Sardi cited, it ends with this, "Blood levels during lifelong consumption can harm heart, bone, brain, and even developing teeth enamel."  So the concern then is the amount of fluoride you consume in fluoridated water OVER A LIFETIME.  My recommendation?  Drink bottled water.  This way you'll get less fluoride, less chlorine, less lead [by the way, lead poisoning is the 4th leading cause of death], and other heavy minerals.

FLUORIDE IN TOOTHPASTE IS SAFER
Though it's animated, this review on how teeth grow isn't bad.  Consider it a review.  And I think that because too many of us don't take the best care, either from negligence or bad information, of our mouth, teeth, and gums that it doesn't hurt to start somewhere even if it is review.

Bill Sardi points out that
Severe dental caries (cavities) in preschool children are more related to low blood levels of vitamin D rather than lack of use of fluoride toothpaste or fluoridated drinking water.  (Fluoride helps harden dental enamel and thus makes teeth resistant to acid-forming bacteria that induce cavities.)
So fluoride is important to protect your teeth; that, and vitamin D.
Vitamin A is good to maintain tooth pulp.  Vitamin D, like fluoride, hardens your enamel.  Vitamin C works to keep your gums healthy.

So, to recap: D to harden enamel.  A to maintain tooth pulp.  C for gums.

IN THE ABSENCE OF VITAMIN D, NONE OF OUR BODY SYSTEMS WORKS WELL

"In the absence of Vitamin D none of our body systems works well.”
“In all of these actions, Vitamin D is not causative; rather, it is enabling—necessary for cell action—but not its cause.”
"Low Vitamin D status impairs [our] protective and reparative activity."

Show Notes:
The presenter is Robert P. Heaney, Creighton University.

“In the absence of Vitamin D, none of our body systems works well.”  Vitamin D is necessary in order to absorb enough calcium from the food we eat.
“In all of these actions, Vitamin D is not causative; rather, it is enabling—necessary for cell action—but not its cause.”

Some vitamin D but not enough?  The size of the response shrinks.  Still get the response but if you’re severely depleted, you get none at all.
Vitamin D exists in two chemically distinct forms:
Vitamin D2: ergocalciferol
Vitamin D3: cholecalciferol.

D3 is the natural form in animals.
Our skin makes D3 on exposure to UV-B light.

10:19 He explains that we need 4000 to 6000 IU/daily.

VITAMIN D3 DEFICIENCY & CHRONIC DISEASE
Chronic disease is the breakdown of the structure and/or of a body system.
Its origin is usually multifactorial:  Genes, Environment, Nutrition, Infection,
Toxins, and Injury.

The body has mechanisms to repair this damage or to fight it at its origin.
And vitamin D is an essential component of many of these mechanisms.
Low Vitamin D status impairs this protective/reparative activity.
The higher the amount of Vitamin D in your system, the better you do when encountering causes.

WORKING DEFINITIONS
1.   A deficiency is a condition in which an inadequate intake of a nutrient results in significant dysfunction or disease.
2.  Nutrient adequacy is the situation in which further increases in intake produce no further reduction in dysfunction or disease.  Nutrient adequacy is not the same as optimal health, as non-nutrient factors also affect the function of body systems.

“All studies, in virtually all nations, irrespective of latitude, show that the majority of the world’s population has inadequate Vitamin D status.”
What are the consequences?

VITAMIN D IMPROVES THESE CONDITIONS
1.  Bone diseases, falls, & fractures.
2.  Hypertension.
3.  Increased risk of cardiac disease & death.
4.  Prematurity, low birth weight, & Caesareans.
5.  Diabetes & metabolic syndrome
6.  Periodontal disease.
7.  Decreased resistance to infection.
8.  Various cancers.
9.  Increased risk of multiple sclerosis.
10.  Increased risk of schizophrenia.
Vitamin D is necessary for all of these tissues to function optimally.
Vitamin D is an integral component of the mechanism whereby cells control gene transcription in response to a variety of extracellular stimuli.
Adequate Vitamin D status enables optimal response to a broad variety of signals.
A deficiency will manifest itself differently, depending upon the tissue being stressed, thus explaining the diversity of responses.
ON FRACTURES: 65 to 85-year-old Brits on adequate Vitamin D showed a 30% reduction in fracture risk.  Not bad.

ON FALLS: 63 to 99-year-olds on falling.  Calcium alone had no effect on falling.  Vitamin D plus Calcium showed a 50% reduction in falling risks.

BREAST CANCER:  Cites a study that showed Vitamin D provides a 70% reduction in breast cancer.

CANCER RISK:  77% reduction in cancer risk.

Outdoor summer workers commonly have Vitamin D values of 60-80 ng/ml of vitamin blood serum.

Age, 51-70, says you need more vitamin D3.  Tolerable upper intake levels: 10,000.  He states that vitamin D3 needs to be taken with magnesium, but also take it with vitamin K2.

WHAT ABOUT ADVERSE EFFECTS?
Adverse effects begin to occur . . . when?  Adverse effects from vitamin D3 can occur after daily 50,000IU for several months, anywhere between 8 to 11 months.  The adverse effect is hypercalcemia, which is excess calcium in the blood where it can harden blood vessels.  You don't want excess calcium in your blood, you want the calcium in your tissue . . . but you don't want excess.  So if you're taking megadoses of vitamin D3 for 8 to 11 months, then back off the vitamin D and incorporate Quercetine into your supplement regime, that or apples or onions.

PHYSIOLOGY:  Health is more than the absence of disease.

Disease
Dysfunction
Health

Deficiency includes dysfunction.

PHYSIOLOGICAL APPROACH vs. DISEASE AVOIDANCE APPROACH
The physiological approach must inevitably produce a higher estimate of the requirement than the disease avoidance approach: The questions are different.  The goals are different.  The endpoints are different.

Two Frameworks:

NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENT

Risk Assessment: concerned with prevention of disease

Physiology: concerned with functional support

For a nutrient study to be informative:

Micro-nutrients function as a component of physiology.

1. Have to determine the basal nutrient status as it is used as an inclusion criterion.

2. Change in intake must be large enough to change nutrient status meaningfully.

3.  Change in nutrient status, not change in intake, must be the independent variable in the hypothesis.

4.  Change in status must be quantified.

5.  Co-nutrient status must be optimized.

Confers an evolutionary advantage – functional optimization.

Minimizing the need for compensation:

Low Calcium

Matching ancestral intake.  Greater sun exposure.

Support of a critical physiological function.

Mother’s milk is capable of providing all the Vitamin D an infant needs.

But only the mother has native vitamin D in her blood.

Vitamin D crosses from the blood into the milk, but 25(OH) D does not, at

    Vitamin D has a half-time in the blood of < 24 hours.

So the mother needs either daily input of Vitamin D or a large reserve (in fat)

This is a pretty good brand of Vitamin D3:
