Dr. Chaffee explained that our blood pH is normally kept between 7.35 and 7.45. He said if it drops to around 7.25, it can become a dangerous medical condition called metabolic acidosis. If it rises to around 7.55, it can become metabolic alkalosis. His point was that the body regulates blood pH extremely tightly because even small changes can be life-threatening.
