October 8, 2026 was the first I saw/heard of this "Operation Safe California." I was skeptical after Homan came out earlier in the year promising to "ramp up" raids in January, a promise that soon fizzled into a hint of "pending amnesty" and soon after Noem got replaced as Secretary of Homeland Security on March 31, 2026, succeeded by Senator Markwayne Mullin. Gregory Bovino was removed from his role as "commander at large," or border patrol commander, on January 26, 2026. Not necessarily replaced since the command was merely transferred to Tom Homan. "Tom Homan replaced Gregory Bovino as the Border Patrol commander in Minnesota." He was subsequently sent back to his prior sector role in El Centro, California. It looks like Democrats "had a conversation" with Homan, scolding him perhaps. "In his place will be border czar Tom Homan, who met with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday. Walz [who asked for a reduction in federal forces] said in a statement the two agreed on the need for an ongoing dialogue." Democrats are always looking to impeach any Republican program that tries to reverse their disasters from the Biden/Obama years.
There were also growing calls Tuesday for the removal of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, including from centrist Senate Democrat John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York, who said if she's not fired, House Dems will impeach her.
But it's not just Democrats. Republicans too called for Noem's replacement. Some of these US politicians seem to be foreign assets where they'd prefer to break bread with criminal aliens than do their job of protecting Americans from crime. It's like we can't have nice things in this country anymore.
Later Tuesday, two Senate Republicans — Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — also called for Noem to resign.
Asked about Noem's future Tuesday, President Donald Trump said she is not stepping down and he believes she is doing a "very good job."
“She ought to … not only lose her job, she ought to be prosecuted,” said Steve Erickson, a Minneapolis resident. “She slandered his (Pretti's) name, his good name."
But residents say removing Noem would not go far enough.
“Because you take care of the leader doesn't take care of the rats on the street,” Wilson said. “You still got to get them away.”
So anyway, California is supposed to see a 45-day surge, October to November, in capture and deportation. We'll see.
It looks like it has begun.🚨 IT'S OFFICIAL: ICE just launched "OPERATION SAFE CALIFORNIA," a massive statewide crackdown with officers told to "go after anybody" — WashExaminer Every illegal alien they encounter will be arrested, "criminal record" or not I VOTED FOR THIS 🔥 It purportedly began in San Diego and will sweep north through Los Angeles and up to San Francisco by November — at least 45 days I VOTED FOR CONSTANT SURGES OF ICE.

This chase comes as ICE ramps up what sources call Operation Safe California, a 45-day enforcement surge first reported by the Washington Examiner. It started in San Diego and is expected to move north through Los Angeles to San Francisco by November. Officers have reportedly been told to arrest every illegal alien they encounter. DHS hasn't confirmed the operation, saying it doesn't discuss operations for officer safety.
California's SB 54 bars local police from helping ICE in most cases, so federal agents are doing this on their own. Pew estimates about 2.3 million illegal aliens live in California, and FAIR puts the cost at about $30.9 billion a year.
