American Speakers at Barcelona Marxist GPM: Clinton, Sanders, Murphy, Walz, Mamdani! The Global Progressive Mobilisation (GPM) Summit. Interesting that Hillary Clinton attended remotely... she is involved with Eric Holder regarding election war game exercises ahead of U.S. midterms. The Global Progressive Mobilisation (GPM) took place on 17–18 April 2026 in Barcelona. It was convened by the Party of European Socialists (PES) with partners including the Socialist International, the Progressive Alliance, the S&D Group in the European Parliament, and FEPS. About 400 delegations from 75 countries took part. More than 3,000 people attended the first day. Close to 7,000 attended the second day, with over 5,000 in the final plenary. Organizers presented the event as a response to authoritarianism, inequality, and far-right advances. Speakers called for international progressive coordination against figures such as Donald Trump. American participants included in-person speakers and remote video messages. Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, spoke early as a co-organizer. She criticized Trump’s policies for burdening working people while benefiting the wealthy. She called for an agenda focused on lowering costs for housing, health care, energy, and childcare. U.S. Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut delivered a keynote later in the program. He said the situation in the United States was “the most significant threat to American democracy since the Civil War.” He stated that “Donald Trump in our country is trying to end our democracy… We are not on the verge of a totalitarian takeover. We are in the middle of it.” Murphy accused the administration of seeking control over courts, law enforcement, media, and elections for oligarchic purposes. He urged global progressive unity. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also spoke in person. He described certain Trump-era actions as fascism. He highlighted Minnesota’s progressive policies, including an expanded child tax credit and paid leave. He asked the audience not to “give up on the American people.” He urged them to “keep the pressure on” and “keep calling it out.” Remote video messages came from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senator Bernie Sanders, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Clinton’s message thanked organizers for creating a space to address global issues. She said: “Around the globe, we see citizens demanding dignity, safety, and opportunity… We see communities standing up for truth against disinformation, for their rights against repression and for hope over fear… Let’s keep standing up for freedom, for justice, for equality, for the simple but powerful idea that together we can shape a better future, no matter what the odds may be.” Sanders’ message warned that leaders including Trump, Netanyahu, and Putin were “plunging this world into international anarchy where might makes right.” He highlighted extreme wealth concentration, noting that the top 1 percent owns more than the bottom 93 percent in the U.S. He called for international working-class solidarity. Mamdani’s message thanked Pedro Sánchez and progressive leaders. He described everyday cost-of-living struggles in New York as reflective of global inequality. He said the path to combating inequality “is a path that we will have to take together, hand in hand.” Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also addressed the gathering. He stressed consistency between campaign promises and governing actions. He called for progressive forces to deliver on social justice and democracy without betraying public trust. The Barcelona gathering is part of an international coalition mobilized against Trump, fascism, and capitalism. It is interesting that Hillary Clinton attended remotely given that she is involved with Eric Holder regarding election war game exercises ahead of U.S. midterms. The specific election-related involvement with Holder are external to the GPM event itself. They were not part of the Barcelona proceedings or the speakers’ remarks there.
