Prometheus suffers because he doesn’t accept free will and Gods design. Watching people suffer in the cold and wanting to give them fire is natural. But when their suffering is self imposed and God the benevolent father is allowing the repercussions of choice to be felt, it hurts them more to “help.”
Prometheus has his liver eaten by a bird for eternity because of him disobeying God. He believes God is cruel and the people deserved unearned fire. But giving the unasked for unearned fire to the undeserving only burns them. God was right. Man had not earned fire. Man needed to learn consequence in order to earn the privilege of fire. Only thru the suffering can one gain the humility to hold fire. Prometheus robbed man of earning it. He stole from man. And Prometheus destroys his liver with his hubris just like a man does who thinks he can stop the suffering of free will on another.
