BEACONS, Building Evidence and Collaboration for Genomics in Nationwide Newborn Screening, NBS [Newborn Screening]. 7 States participating: Iowa, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, North Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico. Plan is to test feasibility of sequencing newborns at birth. The term "sequencing" isn't always familiar to listeners. What sequencing really means is going into the DNA and laying out the entire genetic blueprint of the child. The whole idea here is to add genomic sequencing to the current state newborn screening program.
