BTW, Dr. Cowan does not sell this product. I checked his website for it, and did not find it anywhere on his site for sale. So that may relieve him of any perceived conflict of interest with regard to information and his motive for producing the information.
1) [Strophanthus] supports the parasympathetic nervous system. The seeds lead to a release of acetylcholine in the myocardium.
2) It shrinks and makes the red blood cells and platelets more flexible. So if you could imagine the things that determines the flow through the capillaries and the red blood cells, which are approximately the size of the internal diameter of the capillary. So in order for them to make a smooth passage through the capillaries they have to be soft and flexible and stroke Strophanthus helps with that. It makes them a little smaller and a little more flexible so that the micro circulation is improved so that direction so that directly affects the systemic disease number two, which is a decreased blood flow through the microcirculation.
3) 3rd and the most important which has been demonstrated in a number of studies. There's a bunch of research papers, if you go to PubMed, you can find hundreds of articles on "Ouabain and heart disease," "Ouabain and cancer," etc. But we now know that Ouabain converts lactic acid which is the central poison in this drama into a nutrient called pyruvate which then is a nutrient used in respiration. So the very poison that makes the muscle paralyzed and causes pain and causes necrosis of the tissue is actually broken down or converted into an important nutrient which goes back into the respiratory cycle into the oxidative phosphorylation cycle, thereby restoring the normal energy pathways, thereby stopping the buildup of acidity through the buildup of lactic acid therefore decreasing or stopping the angina and decreasing or stopping the progression to heart attacks and increasing the metabolic activity, the energetics of the heart. And that is the key to the treatment of heart failure and heart attacks and angina overall.

In 2001, a biologist named Gilbert Ling published a book called Life at the Cell and Below-Cell Level: The Hidden History of a Fundamental Revolution in Biology, 2001, in which he argued that the sodium potassium pump fails to explain the exclusion of sodium or the concentration of potassium and therefore the pump can't be responsible for creating the charge across the cell membrane. The core of his argument is simple the math doesn't add up while there is such a pump in the membrane it would have to have access between 15 and 30 times more energy in the form of ATP than is actually available in order to be responsible for the distribution of sodium and potassium.
