HOLLY GODFREY: historic shape note singing

Shape note singing is a musical tradition that uses a unique notation system where notes are represented by different shapes to help singers identify pitches easily. This method, popular in 19th-century America, is often associated with sacred music and communal singing events.

Mollie Lyon wrote, "It made me think of Shaker music. Is it similar? I never heard of this before."

This was an interesting and brief history on the traditions of hymns.
