Ketogenic, Mediterranean, or the low-fat plant-forward diet your surgery would put you on tomorrow. Four to five months. They closed the escape hatch before they started. Every meal and every snack was cooked and supplied by the researchers. A dietitian saw each participant weekly. And the weight loss came out matched at about 10% in all three arms, so nobody gets to say this was just the weight coming off. The weight came off identically. The only thing that differed was what the food was made of. Liver fat, average reduction: - Keto: 67% - Mediterranean: 45% - Plant-forward: 45% Out of prediabetes by the end: - Keto: 50% - Mediterranean: 29% - Plant-forward: 7% The keto arm took 73% of its calories as fat and 4% as carbohydrate. Not a reduced-carbohydrate diet. 4%. Britain and America have spent 40 years telling people with fat in their liver to cut the fat out of their food. The diet that cleared the most fat out of the most livers was the one made almost entirely of fat. The plant-forward diet is the one on the poster in the waiting room. It came third, and it came third by a distance you could see from the car park.
