The Minneapolis police chief testified under oath that officers were not trained to restrain suspects by placing a knee on their neck. But pages from Derek Chauvin’s training manual—later displayed by his mother—show that officers were in fact taught this technique. Those pages were removed from the online manual after George Floyd’s death, so the public, and more importantly the jury, never saw them. Another training slide shows the same knee placement and instructs officers to call an ambulance. What most people don’t know is that officers requested one approximately 30 seconds after Floyd was placed on the ground.

If Chauvin was trained to use this restraint, why wasn’t the jury shown those pages of his training manual?
