The Grand Jury already found that there is no probable cause in the allegation of any foul play.
On September 21, 2026, District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath announced that the grand jury returned no indictments in Wells' death. The grand jury reviewed substantial evidence, including 132 subpoenas and testimony from 43 witnesses.
That means:
No person was indicted for Wells' death.
No criminal trial occurred, because there was no defendant brought to trial in connection with his death.
The grand jury's decision is not an acquittal. It does not legally establish that no crime occurred.
According to Mississippi Today, new evidence could potentially lead to another grand-jury proceeding in the future. Mississippi has no statute of limitations for murder.
So the sequence was essentially:
Death of Nolan Wells → investigation → grand-jury investigation → no indictment → no criminal trial.
