INDULGENCES FOR THE SOULS IN PURGATORY From November 1 - 8, the Catholic Church grants a plenary indulgence applicable only to the souls in Purgatory to the faithful who devoutly visit a cemetery and pray for the departed, even if only mentally. Additionally, on All Souls' Day (November 2) a plenary indulgence is granted to those who visit a church or oratory and recite an Our Father and the Creed. To gain these indulgences, the faithful must fulfill the standard conditions: * Exclusion of sin: Complete detachment from all sin, even venial sin. * Sacramental Confession: Can be received within roughly 20 days before or after the indulgence work; one confession suffices for multiple indulgences gained during this period. * Eucharistic Communion: Must be received on the same day the indulgence work is performed (or on the day of the cemetery/church visit). * Prayer for the Pope: Recite one Our Father and one Hail Mary (or other prayers) for the intentions of the Holy Father. Only one plenary indulgence may be gained per day. While a partial indulgence is available for visiting cemeteries throughout the year, the plenary indulgence is specifically restricted to the November 1–8 period. These indulgences cannot be applied to oneself, only to the faithful departed.
