Just to be clear: Obama's father was Muslim, which under Islamic law, makes him Muslim. Obama spent his formative years being raised in the Muslim country of Indonesia. As a child, Obama was registered as Muslim in school, went to Muslim school and studied Quran. Rony Amir, an Obama classmate and Muslim, described Obama as "previously quite religious in Islam." Zulfin Adi, one of Obama's closest childhood friends, said Obama prayed in the mosque.
