MJ MURPHY: The fear itself becomes the evidence. Psychologists call this "social proof." When enough people appear convinced of something, our brains begin treating popularity as proof.

Chicken Little is a story about how fear spreads faster than evidence.

Notice what never happens.  There's no investigation.  There's no verification that the sky is falling.  No curiosity.  Just certainty.

Chicken Little tells a second animal and instead of asking for evidence that second animal just accepts the claim and passes it onto others.  Again with no investigation no verification only certainty.  Soon an entire crowd is running in Terror because everyone assumes the previous person must know something.  No one stops to look up.  No one checks whether the sky is actually falling.  The fear itself becomes the evidence.  Psychologists call this "social proof."  When enough people appear convinced of something, our brains begin treating popularity as proof.  The larger the crowd becomes, the harder it feels to question.  Eventually the frightened animals follow Foxy Loxy who promises them safety; instead, he leads them straight to his den.  Their panic makes them easy to manipulate.  Fear shuts down critical thinking.

How does this relate to bates over gender ideology?  For years now many people have been told that questioning certain claims is dangerous.  They make people feel unsafe.  They're warned that disagreement causes harm.  They're told "There is no debate.  No debate.  Period!"  Many become afraid to ask simple factual questions.
