Dr. Baker refers to the post by Hal Cranmer, where he says, "I have seen people with Dementia in my assisted living homes rip open bags of sugar for coffee and pour it into their mouth."

So this kind of a test on toxicity is is unethical in humans, but the animal data is 13.5 grams per pound.  For a 150lb average sized human it ends up being about 4 cups of sugar.  So, if you were to sit down, as an 150 lb average-sized person, and you were to consume 4 cups of sugar straight in, about 50% of the people would potentially die.  Pure sugar . . . You think about rock candy, cotton candy, soft drinks [I would add cereals]

 

Most food products, medicine, or any consumable on or off-market is measured for toxicity.  It's called ld50, or lethal dose in 50% of the population.  Wikipedia explains that

In toxicology, the median lethal dose, LD₅₀  (abbreviation for "lethal dose, 50%"), LC₅₀ (lethal concentration, 50%) or LCt₅₀ is a toxic unit that measures the lethal dose of a given  substance.  The value of LD₅₀ for a substance is the dose   required to kill half the members of a tested population after a specified test duration. LD₅₀ figures are frequently used as a general indicator of a substance's acute toxicity. A lower LD₅₀ is indicative of increased toxicity.
