There is actually a lot that we can learn from ancient warriors of the past. We see a lot of training at full range of motion, like the ATG Split Squat.
The Cossack Warriors of Eastern Europe would train the Cossack squat.
The Shaolin Monks would spend up to 30 minutes in a horse stance.
And the Brazilian martial arts Capoeira, they spent a lot of time on the ground and sometimes on all fours. Here in this move, where traditionally you would kick somebody, really hitting those glutes.
And we're seeing people in Jiu-Jitsu, in wrestling, the functional fitness athletes, perform these.
In Indonesian Salat, we see these deep kneeling stances for low strikes and it can be a brutal leg workout. So next time you're doing bodyweight exercises, and you feel like they're not really doing anything, maybe it's the way you're performing them.
