Bayer says that pesticide manufacturers such as themselves should not be held liable for their potential health risks if they have a federally approved label.

The Iowa Senate just passed a bill, Senate File 2412, that protects pesticide manufacturers from being sued by Iowa residents.  Bayer Monsanto, which produces Roundup with the active ingredient glyphosate, a probable human carcinogen, proposed the bill in Iowa and other states.  Republicans in the Iowa Senate just passed this bill which now prevents any Iowa residents with severe illnesses from suing pesticide manufacturers for failing to warn them of health risks, like cancer.  I dug around the Iowa legislators' lobbying disclosure for Bayer and found that they have 5 active lobbyists in the Iowa Senate, including Brad Epperly, Dustin Miller, Craig Mischo, Casey Nickel, and David Tierney.  So to no surprise, we have another instance of American politicians being lobbied to side with conglomerates at the detriment of our citizens' freedoms.  The top donor to Amy Sinclair, who's the Republican Senate president in Iowa, gave $53,000 in 2023 and is listed as an "organization unavailable for these records."  Might this money have ultimately come from Bayer?  Who knows?  We know that Bayer wants to prevent more lawsuits from being filed that allege glyphosate causes cancer following the Pennsylvania jury ruling that they must pay $2 billion and damages to a groundskeeper for causing his non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Bayer ordered to pay $2.25 billion in latest RoundUp trial.

Bayer says that pesticide manufacturers such as themselves should not be held liable for their potential health risks if they have a federally approved label.  [a label approved by the FDA from a recommendation by the EPA who found that glyphosate does not cause cancer.]   Democrats said that the bill sides with corporations against Iowans, especially farmers who are facing chronic or terminal illnesses from applying RoundUp.
