Not only did the apocalyptic year of 1913 give America all the wonders of the FEDERAL RESERVE, it ALSO gave us the 17th Amendment, making US Senators POPULARLY ELECTED.
This LITERALLY BROKE America's federalist order. A federal nation is supposed to have both a supreme federal government AND ALSO individual sovereign states. Those STATES were to have a SEAT AT THE FEDERAL TABLE, as the SOVEREIGN ENTITIES THEY WERE in the form of the SENATE--and those Senators would be APPOINTED BY THE STATES, and NOT be popularly elected. The POPULATION already had federal representation in the House. The Senate was supposed to the the STATE's CHECK on the authority of the federal government. The 17th Amendment broke this frame, such that the states no longer had any meaningful check on the federal government, and hence it grew like a cancer in future decades--especially in the form of the scores of so-called "independent agencies."
