In August 1982 Ronald Reagan, disgusted by Israeli bombing of Beirut, called Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and demanded he halt the bombing.
Reagan supported a UN resolution criticizing Israel, suspended military aid, and sent weapons to Saudi Arabia over the objections of Israel and the Israeli lobby in the US.
