WHOA. WAIT. Colorado's go-to DNA scientist just got walked out in handcuffs. Ten years. And they still want you to pretend the lab was fine. Yvonne "Missy" Woods. Twenty-nine years at CBI. Today Judge Andrew Poland sentenced her to 10 years on cybercrime after she pleaded guilty to four felonies: cybercrime, first-degree perjury, forgery, and attempt to influence a public servant. She cried. She said she let people down. Good. The harm is not a press release. She altered DNA quantities so cases looked empty. Prosecutor Darren Kafka: a four-year-old in Pueblo. A Rocky Mountain National Park rape claim. An 88-year-old in a nursing home. Woods reported no DNA. There was DNA. Those cases never got prosecuted. CBI admits problems in 1,045 of her cases — one in ten of more than 10,780. Flagged in 2014 and 2018. Therapy, then back to the lab. Prosecutors not told. Victims not told. In 2023 an intern blew the whistle and they let her retire with a pension. Acted alone, they say. Michael Clark spent over twelve years of a life sentence on DNA that later retested inconsistently. Conviction vacated. A Weld County judge threw out a child sex assault case citing "outrageous government conduct." Poland: this case is about trust. She held it and she breached it. Independent oversight of CBI. Full accounting of every tainted case. Name the supervisors who buried the warnings. Open the books. Name the supervisors. Put the lab under eyes that do not work for CBI.
