My name is Joseph Galvan. I'm a resident of LaSalle County and the Digital Director of Fox River Church. I'm here today regarding the proposed Redevelopment of former Fox River Resort in Sheridan, Illinois by Resort Living, a project of VAIRT. While developers have seemingly terminated the transaction due to earnest money issues and community pushback, the board must remain vigilant and rigorously scrutinize any future applications for this property. The original $400 million marketing explicitly targeted Muslim families and investors. Materials promoted Sharia compliant financing, Halal standards, a faith-based gated Resort community and Muslims building ethical wealth under Islamic principles. VAIRT's founder has advocated Sharia compliant real estate. Only after significant backlash did they soften or remove that language and claim the resort would welcome everyone. Pivoting after the fact doesn't earn trust; it exposes an agenda. If it is truly neutral, they could have proved it with binding commitments up front not polished damage control Facebook posts. The resort living falsely claimed ownership of fox Resort seemingly to lure investors before the deal had closed. Depending on how they structured the offering, this could be illegal and should be investigated further. This rush to delete every trace of those claims online speaks volumes. In their recent statements about the project, they claim Islam teaches love, mercy, and respect, citing the prophet Muhammad alongside Jesus. But Jesus is not merely a prophet. He is the Eternal son. He is the son of God. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Christianity formed a moral and legal bedrock with this nation. Individual liberty under God, equality before the law, and rejection of theocratic parallel systems. Orthodox Islamic Doctrine and history include Sharia, dhimmitude, and jizya, systems that have clashed with Western freedoms whenever they're implicated at scale. We are not brothers and sisters in faith. Courteous neighbors, yes. But only under full submission to American law with no exceptions or parallel systems. A gated faith-specific community creates separation not integration and would alter the character of our county. The current zoning does not support dense, permanent, residential use and many other concerns over emergency access and tax impacts remain. We are not against development or investment. We are against projects that import parallel societies and demand accommodations outside of constitutional framework. Patterns in Europe and parts of America are clear: demand for Sharia accommodations, erosion of freedoms, and declining social cohesion. Citing these facts is not prejudice, it's honest realism in the face of uncomfortable facts. Blindly indulging them under the guise of kindness is naive and self-defeating. True love of neighbor requires upfront honesty, not deceptive marketing followed by appeals to tolerance. If any re-zoning or approvals are ever sought, the board must demand full public disclosure of ownership, operational plans, security arrangements, and all faith-based elements. We will welcome new neighbors who fully embrace American laws and norms with no special religious rules or incremental changes. We have a responsibility to protect our home, our heritage, and the biblical values of Liberty and equality under one law that made this nation exceptional.
