HALITOSIS CAN BE ALLEVIATED BY CHEWING GUM WHICH STIMULATES ANTIBACTERIAL SALIVARY FLOW

Thanks to Steve Bartin.

Bacteria builds up and causes a foul odor.  Bad breath can also be a sign of systemic health issue, like kidney disease or diabetes or a side-effect of a medication.  Bad breath is a transient condition.  Halitosis is more of a long-term condition that can be alleviated by chewing gum which stimulates the salivary flow.  Saliva contains antibacterial agents.  Salivary flow decreases while we sleep, and that's what causes bad breath upon waking.  Most people can't smell their breath accurately.  Interesting.
